Rules
All tournaments are considered team events.
A team will consist of two (2) partners fishing together, or one (1) person fishing alone.
All tournaments will have a five (5) fish limit
All fish must be kept alive if at all possible.
Penalties will be imposed on dead fish. As in 2009, this will be 0.5 pounds per bass.
In the event of a boat issue affecting your return, a team must contact someone on the tournament staff by cell phone before their scheduled flight return in order to not be disqualified.
Official time will be cell phone time.
Only one rod may be used per fisherman at any one time.
Penalties will be imposed on teams who are late for their return time. Continuing in 2010, this will be 1 pound per minute from the total bag and the lunker weight. Late teams will be allowed to weigh and receive points. To be considered “returned” you will need to be within 100 yards of the launch and your boat number visible.
Anytime a field is split into flights due to high participation levels, the time between flight returns will always be 30 minutes.
2nd (or possibly 3rd) flights will always begin blasting off 10 minutes after the last boat in the previous flight is either out of sight OR has begun fishing.
Tournament weigh-in staff will always be in the first flight and will oftentimes be assigned a blast-off number in the Top 10 positions as they must return 10-15 minutes early to prepare for weigh-in.
The Lunker Pot will again not be optional in 2010. It will consist of $10 of a team’s $80 entry fee. A.A.U. As in 2009, there will only be one lunker awarded per tournament.
All member teams will blast off before open teams (as in 2009).
All rules as stated on tournament flyer will be in effect
You may fish any or all of our qualifying events as:
An open team with any partner; no membership in Avon Anglers Inc required,
you will not receive any points, you will not qualify for the Classic.
Qualification for Avon Angler 2010 Bass Team of the Year
Membership in Avon Anglers is required for any qualifying team member
Both partners must sign up as a team, no later than the blast off of the 1st Points event at Owasco Lake on June 26th, 2010.
Teams will receive points based upon their final position in each tournament.
In order to be in the running for Bass Team of the Year, a team MUST FISH ALL 6 POINTS EVENTS.
ALL 6 POINTS EVENTS WILL COUNT, THERE WILL BE NO DROP TOURNAMENTS IN 2010.
The member team that finishes with the most points will be declared the 2010 Avon Angler Bass Team of the Year.
The Substitution Rule below is in effect.
The Hardship Rule below is in effect (note: new partner must be a member).
The Classic Tournament
Eligible teams must finish in the Top 25 teams in points OR HAVE ENTERED ALL 6 POINTS EVENTS to qualify. This means there are now two ways to qualify for the AAU Classic.
THERE IS NO MINUIMUM NUMBER OF TOURNAMENTS REQUIRED TO HAVE ENTERED IN 2010. Teams may qualify for the Classic by fishing any number of points events, provided they end up in the Top 25 in the points standings at the end of the 6th event. (ex. It is possible a team could fish 3, 4, or 5 events and collect enough points to qualify for the 2010 Classic.)
The 2009 Points Champions receive an automatic entry into the 2010 Classic. If the 2009 Points Champions are in the Top 25, the team that is 26th will be invited into the Classic field.
The bodies of water for the Classic will be announced at the weigh-in of the Conesus Open on August 28th, 2010. These will be selected from a list of these possible waters: Conesus, Honeoye, Canandaigua, Onandaga, Keuka, Silver, Seneca, Cayuga, Waneta and Lamoka Lakes (possibly together or separate), Port, Irondequoit, and Sodus Bays. There will be an effort to keep these bodies of water somewhat close together.
There will be a typical Avon Anglers points system in place for the Classic Tournament.
WE WILL INSTITIUTE A CUT-DOWN TO 12 TEAMS AFTER DAY 1 OF THE CLASSIC.
Any fee for the Classic will be announced in the Classic Invitation to be mailed after the Conesus Open on August 28th, 2010. The goal is for the entry fee to be free provided we average 52 teams per Open event and have 5 major sponsors of our team trail.
The 2009 Avon Angler Bass Team of the Year will receive free entry to the Classic in all cases.
Practice will be allowed from the time of the announcement until 12AM on Monday, September 20th, 2010. From that time on, the Classic waters will be off limits to participants.
In the event of a tie, the team with largest lunker fish for the two days will determine the winner.
Non-Points Bass Events
The Fathers Day Bass event, the Dash for Cash event, the Bass Poor Boy event, and the three (3) October-November Ironman Series events will not count towards either qualifying for the Classic or the Avon Anglers Bass Team of the Year award. The Ironman events will be a points series and a separate 2010 Avon Anglers Ironman Team of the Year will be awarded.
The Substitution Rule
Applies only to Classic teams and Member teams pursuing points for the Bass Team of the Year and the Classic Tournament..
All teams must sign in at registration under their team name. If a substitute is being used they must inform the tournament director. Substitutes do not have to be Avon Angler Inc. members.
Each team will be allowed to use a substitute in one (1) qualifying point tournament.
The substitute may be an Avon Angler member or non-member who is not already a partner on another team. All points go to the team name, regardless if a substitute is used.
Any team may use as its substitute any partner of another signed team, providing neither of the other two (2) partners are fishing the tournament. In this case points received will be split equally between both teams.
There will be no substitution allowed for the Classic Tournament
Hardship Rule
As a general rule Classic teams and Member teams will not be allowed to change partners once
they have signed up together as a team. However if one (1) of the partners is unable to fish due
to special circumstances, such as a prolonged illness or moving out of the area, (there could be
others) that team may request in writing to the tournament committee, to replace one of its
members. The tournament committee must approve or disapprove this request before the next
qualifying tournament.
The 2010 Point System
Points will be awarded only to teams competing to make the Classic or competing for the Avon Anglers Bass Team of the Year award. Once a has missed one points event OR had subbed more than once, they will not be in the running for Bass Team of the Year.
Points will be awarded to Classic or Member teams based on their finish at each point tournament in relation to only Classic or Member teams. Example: should an open team win the tournament, and either a Classic or Member team come in 2nd, that team would be awarded 100 points.
THERE WILL BE NO DROP SCORE IN 2010
The point increments (as in the past) will change at the 21st position from two (2) points to one (1) point. Any team weighing fish is guaranteed a minimum 30 points…
No points will be awarded for the Fathers Day, Dash for Cash, or any of the Ironman tournaments
Points will be awarded as follows:

A.A.U. Club Fund supports many club functions throughout the year with the most important being the 4 Kids Pond events we hold annually. This also is used for asset purchases and maintenance (Truck, trailer, computer, oxygenation system, P.A. system, and other items) that help make A.A.U. tournaments the quality events they are known for.
This trail is absolutely advantageous to anglers/teams that are members and compete to be in the A.A.U. Classic (1st - $2000, 2nd - $1250, and 3rd - $750) and for A.A.U. Bass Team of the Year, which will award plaques plus custom jackets and hats to the winners. Classic will be free entry provided we get 5 sponsors and average 52 teams per Open. Payouts will increase accordingly as sponsorship and average turnout increases.
